Members of city council received an update on the controversial Tisdale Whitney sanitary pump station during Tuesday night’s meeting at city hall — although there might not have been a need for much of a refresher given they spent more than an hour discussing the subject in-camera.
“Pump station No. 4 is located near the Whitney Arena,” said Patrick Seguin, the city’s manager of engineering.
“It consists of a pump station with a few large storm (equalization) tanks and it has been subjected to some ongoing settlement since 2015.
“From our consultant’s report, the settlement appeared to be caused by slope failures in the excavation, some basal instability and uplift at the base of the excavation and loss of soil material from beneath the buildings.
“So, essentially we have some undisturbed soil beneath our buildings, which is causing some settlement.”
