2019 successes

Every year the Board of Directors of The Porcupine River Watershed Directors sets a number of goals that we attempt to meet, so far this year we are on track to fulfill them all. These goals are only successful when we have people that are willing to commit some time and volunteer with us to make these goals a reality. Please join us!

2nd Successful Yellow Fish Road Paint Event

August 13, 2019 – Friends of the Porcupine River Watershed, the Mattagami Region Source Protection Committee and the Wintergreen Fund for Conservation would like to thank all the volunteers that made time to help us today.  In total 22 drains were painted on Bristol Road and are visual reminders that the only thing going down these drains is rain water, anything else is untreated. YELLOW FISH ROAD PAINT EVENT

August 13, 2019 – Special thank you to Kerrie Blaise (center) of CELA (Canadian Environmental Law Association) for taking part in the Yellow Fish Road program with FPRW.

SUBJECT:
City of Timmins Porcupine Watershed Public Liaison Committee RECOMMENDATION: That Council adopts the Terms of Reference for the City of Timmins Porcupine Watershed Liaison Committee and further that Council appoints two members to participate in the committee.

EXPLANATION:
Following a number of conversations between the City of Timmins, the Ministry of the Environment – Conservation and Parks, the Canadian Environmental Law Association, and the Friends of the Porcupine Watershed over the course of 2018, it was recommended that a Public Liaison Committee be established to provide a forum for the dissemination, consultation, review and exchange of information regarding upgrades to the Whitney Tisdale pumping stations and other issues affecting the Porcupine River Watershed. CONTINUE READING TERMS OF REFERENCE

LOCAL GROUP LOBBYING AGAINST LEGAL AID CLINIC FUNDING CUTS

June 19, 2019 – Since 1991, Trout Unlimited Canada’s award-winning Yellow Fish Road™ program has been Canada’s premier water education program targeted to reduce water pollution. The Yellow Fish Road™ program educates Canadians that storm drains are the doorways to our rivers, lakes and streams and anything other than rainwater can harm life in and around the water, as well as us as Canadians who need clean water. MAY 25, 2019 – DRAW YOUR PERFECT PORCUPINE LAKE CONTEST

This was our 1st Porcupine Lake drawing Contest and we were so happy that so many participated in the event. Congratulations to all that submitted drawings and to the final winners.

May 25, 2019 – 2ND ANNUAL PORCUPINE LAKE CLEANUP

This is a great example of what happens when our community comes together! Thank you to our amazing board members, volunteers and sponsors for helping us clean Porcupine Lake. Together we filled a dump truck of trash! You guys are the absolute best.
We want to thank all of the friends of the Friends who continue to keep our watershed clean all year round. Thank you for picking up trash on your daily walks, jogs and rides and making the effort to keep South End clean!
